FAQ

What is weekly holiday pay (주휴수당)?

Korean law gives workers one paid day off per week if they work 15 or more hours and show up on all scheduled days. Part-timers receive it as extra pay: weekly hours ÷ 40 × 8 hours × hourly wage.

Why does a 40-hour week equal 209 hours a month?

40 working hours plus 8 paid holiday hours is 48 hours a week. An average month has about 4.345 weeks, so 48 × 4.345 ≈ 209 hours.

Should 3.3% or the four insurances be deducted?

If you are hired as an employee working 15+ hours a week for a month or more, social insurance usually applies. Some employers treat part-timers as freelancers and withhold 3.3% instead; ask your employer which applies to you.

Do foreign students get the same pay?

Yes. The minimum wage and weekly holiday pay apply to everyone, including D-2/D-4 students working part-time with permission from immigration.
