FAQ

What are the 4 major insurances in Korea?

Employees in Korea pay into National Pension, National Health Insurance (plus Long-term Care Insurance), and Employment Insurance. Your employer pays the same amount again on your behalf, and also covers Industrial Accident Insurance in full.

Do foreigners pay National Pension?

Most foreign employees do. Some nationalities are exempt or can claim a lump-sum refund when leaving Korea, depending on agreements between Korea and their home country. Check with the National Pension Service.

Why is my payslip slightly different?

Employers withhold income tax using the official simplified tax table, while this calculator uses the yearly formula, so results can differ by a few thousand won. Bonuses and company-specific deductions are not included.

What happens at year-end tax settlement?

Monthly tax is only an estimate. In January–February the year's actual tax is calculated with deductions such as card spending, insurance and medical costs, and you get a refund or pay the difference.
