FAQ
Who can get unemployment benefits?
You need at least 180 days of employment insurance coverage in the 18 months before leaving, and you must have lost your job involuntarily (layoff, contract end, recommended resignation and similar). Quitting voluntarily usually doesn't qualify unless there is an accepted reason such as unpaid wages or workplace harassment.
Can foreigners receive it?
F-2, F-5 and F-6 visa holders are covered like Korean workers. For other visas it depends on the visa type and whether you were enrolled in employment insurance — check your status with the Employment Center (call 1350).
How do I apply?
Register as a job seeker on Work24 (work24.go.kr), attend the online or in-person orientation, then apply for benefits at your local Employment Center. You must keep looking for work and report your job search regularly.
Is it taxed?
No. Unemployment benefits are tax-free and no social insurance is deducted.
